Overview
Chase Taylor Recruitment is working on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business to recruit an experienced Transport Manager.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for a transport professional with strong compliance expertise and leadership capability to take ownership of a busy transport operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring full legal compliance, driving operational efficiency, and maintaining high standards of customer service.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the transport function. This includes ensuring full compliance with DVSA regulations, Operator Licence requirements, tachograph legislation, and the Working Time Directive, as well as overseeing all aspects of transport safety and governance.
You will be responsible for planning and optimising delivery routes, managing drivers, warehouse operatives, and the Distribution Compliance Administrator, and ensuring strong performance across the team. Monitoring driver compliance and behaviour will form a key part of the role, along with overseeing fleet maintenance, servicing schedules, inspections, and associated cost control.
In addition, you will maintain all transport compliance records and documentation, authorise weekly working hours for payroll, and manage driver training records, licence checks, and competency matrices. You will also investigate OTIF (On Time In Full) failures and implement corrective actions where required, as well as produce weekly KPI reports for senior management.
The role also involves overseeing the despatch warehouse operation, monitoring scanning accuracy for inbound and outbound deliveries, and acting as the out-of-hours contact for driver emergencies. You will be expected to drive continuous improvement initiatives across the transport function, promote Health & Safety compliance, and work closely with internal departments to ensure service levels are consistently met. Other reasonable duties may also be required from time to time.
What We’re Looking For
To be successful in this role, you must hold a National Transport Manager CPC and have previous experience operating as a Transport Manager or within a senior transport compliance position. A strong understanding of UK transport legislation is essential, particularly in relation to Operator Licence compliance, DVSA regulations, tachograph law, and the Working Time Directive.
You will need proven experience managing drivers and transport operations, along with strong organisational, route planning, and leadership skills. The ability to communicate effectively, solve problems under pressure, and prioritise workloads is also key, alongside competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
Experience within a manufacturing or distribution environment would be advantageous, particularly within the window and door sector, as would familiarity with Transport Management Systems (TMS).
