There is no worse start to a day as a manager or a business leader, than receiving a resignation letter on your desk.
The first question that comes to mind is “Why do they want to leave?".
So, using the power of LinkedIn we asked, “Which of the following would be the most enticing factor that would persuade you to move role?” The results of the poll were dominated by Salary & Benefits leading the way at 54%.
In a world of growing costs; food inflation, an energy crisis and rising interest rates to name just a few, we thought this was likely to be the main response. If your finances at home are being squeezed and you have cut costs where possible, the next step is to look to improve your annual earnings. Would this be classed as being greedy? We think not, in a lot of cases, people are just trying to make ends meet.
Coming in second is a Culture with 25%. It's not surprising that the culture of a business is seen high in this list. An unhappy workplace = unhappy employees. The value held in a company's culture is higher than the need for career progression. This is an interesting find!
Whilst the results are from a small sample it provides some thought-provoking insights to what might make a candidate move roles. The main take away being that offering a competitive salary relative to the market will ensure you not only retain current employees but also entice new talent.
